Antibiotics in the Environment: Sources, Risks and Remedies

Antibiotics are compounds that can kill or stop the growth of germs, and used by humans. Improper usage disposal antibiotics is a major source antibiotic residual pollution. This paper aims to review on sources, risks remedies in environment Ghana.  The search was employed find published articles which reported residues occurrence through PubMed Google Scholar. included 17 papers met inclusion criteria. Most studies were from Ashanti Region, followed Greater Accra Region. top three detected Amoxycillin (7), Ciprofloxacin (6) Tetracycline (6). highest overall residue observed 90% honey, 35.5% cow milk obtained Kumasi. authors noted involved presence Antibiotic resistance bacteria, allergies, hazards exposure promotion bacteria. remedy mostly suggested monitoring amount environment. cause allergies resistance, so it important educate farmers invest technologies will remove reduce
